Which service SHOULD you get?
Before you decide between technologies, ask yourself– What do I need to do with my data, where do I need to send it, how critical is it to me?
For example if you need to send a large file from one site to another and cannot wait, you need a service with performance guarantees, a symmetric service with service-level agreements. You pay more, and you get more, like guaranteed time to repair if there is a service outage, as well as latency commitments and network availability. These are the things you need when your data positively, absolutely has to get through. An ideal service for this would be Mid-Band Ethernet or WiMAX.
What sort of applications are you running over the WAN- are they chatty? If so, high bandwidth without application acceleration and QoS is no good to you.
If you do not have the need for consistent upstream and downstream bandwidth, sporadic data usage and a tight budget, opt for ADSL2 + Annex A.
If you travel within Australia, and need secure access to your corporate data, 3G will work for you. If you travel in metro areas, rurally or globally, consider iPass broadband roaming.
If you have a high performance web site consider a co-lo for almost unlimited outbound bandwidth. Most data centres will have high speed links from multiple vendors already installed.
Which service CAN you get?
Sadly, it is a fact of life that not every service that you require is available in your location, and even if it is, it may not make business sense at its price tag. Find out which service is available to you by submitting the form below.
