Real World Examples
Here are a few examples of our engineers' expertise at work, where they were able to protect stolen data, supply real time remote diagnosis, identify performance issues down to user level, power on remotely, increase user productivity and secure web pages
1. Laptop Security
Our management tools are not primarily designed to protect laptops, but this situation was a bonus for the customer. Our engineers took quick action when a laptop that had been stolen reported back into their management console. They were able to tell the customer straightaway that the laptop was in Vietnam. Since they still had control over the machine they were able to set up a script that would wipe all data on the laptop.
If the laptop was still in Australia, we could have taken stronger measures, like tracking the user down through the ISP and getting the police involved. As it was, the customer was just happy that confidential information was not compromised.

2. Support wherever you are (or we are)
Day to day work is made so much simpler because we can easily diagnose problems on your laptop or desktop anywhere in the world. (As long as there is an Internet connection.) Recently we were able to fix a problem within minutes, with the user at a Perth airport and our engineer working from home in his kitchen. You receive real time assistance, regardless of where you are.
3. Enhanced productivity using vPro and our management tools
vPro technology in conjunction with our management tools allows us fundamentally to offer a whole layer of systems management below the OS level.
"vPro really helps. If a customer inadvertently turns a machine off, the NMT (Network Management Tool) integration and the chipset gives us the power to power-on remotely. Before, someone had to make a special trip to get that done. We can also do things that help in user productivity, like start all PCs at a predetermined time before staff come in." says Richard Rosen, Senior Systems Engineer
The vPro system usually includes a Core 2 Duo processor, the business-optimized Q965 chipset, Intel gigabit network processors, and Intel Active Management and Virtualisation technology. With a vPro platform installed, authorised administrators can get into a desktop to manage it even if it's powered down.

4. Customisable Alerts that make sense
We can tell you when things happen when they shouldn't or when things don't happen as they should. When builders pulled out cables on one of our customer servers, we knew about it before they did, simply because the agent did not report in at the preset interval. Similarly, our alerts let us know important scripts don't run... that is, we can tell you when events have not occurred as scheduled to happen.
5. Why is my Internet so slow?
Slow performance can be attributed to a number of things (congestion, latency, packet loss, contention ratios etc). Netforce links are delivered at true line speeds, so we were surprised when a customer complained about a slow Internet link. Using our management tools (a traffic analysis device in this case), our engineer discovered that the real cause of the problem was BitTorrent. BitTorrent is one of the most popular Peer-to- Peer (P2P) protocols for delivering media files in the Internet today. The P2P protocols were chewing up 71% of available bandwidth. We were able to track this down to a single user, who was cautioned not to download movies using office resources.
Did you know that if you have an Internet link or WAN with us, you can have access to free monitoring and management reports? We can log throughput, processor percent utilisation and “events” of interest. The historical statistics are also useful for problem resolution and invaluable for capacity planning. If users are complaining about poor performance the graphs and statistics enable rapid problem diagnosis. We can even report on the traffic types that are using the links. This is an invaluable tool for tuning QoS policies and aids with troubleshooting. Where other carriers will have no idea what traffic is congesting your link, we can tell you the protocol and source / destination IP addresses.
With the right tools, we can totally deny P2P traffic and reserve sections of bandwidth for key traffic like voice or http.
6. Data Protection
We have locked down changes to web code to specific pages of our client's web server. If, for instance, images are changed, we get alerted of the change.
